Moving back in with your parents may be a difficult and daunting task. On the other hand, it could be a relief; you could finally save up some money and someday, you'll be able to afford a place of your time. It is always better to think of this act as a positive thing. By viewing it in a positive light, you will be able to live more harmoniously with your parents and the experience will be better. This article is a girl's guide to moving back in with the parents.
- Cleanliness
Whenever you live with anyone, whether it is with your best friend, your boyfriend, and especially with your parents, you have to maintain cleanliness. Whenever you eat, wash your (and their) dishes. At the end of every week, make sure that the kitchen and bathroom, two of the most used rooms in a house, are clean. Vacuum the floors once in a while and don't hesitate to ask if your parents want you to do anything else. When you are courteous, your parents will know that you're still an adult even when you live with them.
- Financial responsibility
Always talk about the financial aspects of the situation before you move in. Do your parents expect you to contribute towards the monthly utilities? Do your parents expect you to pay a portion of the monthly mortgage or rent? When you discuss these issues before they come up, you will ensure that you and your parents are on the same page.
- Expectations
Naturally, we all expect something from each other, whether they are material things or just actions. It is always better to ask your parents what they expect from you. Then, tell your parents what you expect from them. How much privacy do you expect (or need) to have? What kind of problems do you think your expectations, if they are different from your parents', will pose? How will you solve these together?
- Visitors
If your parents consider their house to be your house, then having visitors over will not be a problem for you. But, if your parents consider their house to be "their house," you will need to talk with your parents about having visitors over. For some parents, visitors can be a problem. Do not make it an issue, but try to reach some sort of medium before you invite visitors to their home.
The best piece of advice you should remember is that you should always communicate with your parents. Living with others is undoubtedly a difficult task, and it is not made any less difficult when you are living with your parents. But, when you communicate, you can create a home that is both full of harmony and love.
