That old verse about the paths "diverging in a wood"
gets quoted far more than it should.
I have seen bum-kissing valedictorians spout it from the podium
at graduation after graduation.
They heard it in English class after English class,
and it stuck.
I have seen CEOs exhort,
trying to kid us.
They took the path most taken -
play politics and work your way up the corporate ladder.
What do they know about the path less taken?
I have never seen a hobo begging for change
quote those words.
I have never heard a bohemian singer sing them.
I have never quoted them myself
because, ironically,
they are so overused.
What good is the path less travelled if
all the goodie-goodies take it?
