Cold air cutting to the bone
Scarves wrapped around necks still chilled
Hands clasped together they walk down the lane
Looking for a place they can consummate their love
A cornfield beckons come to me
Soft grass in a meadow yields
Apple orchards offer sweet fragrance
A hayloft warm protection
With clumsy fingers he works a button
She helps with her bra
They grasp and grope so awkwardly
The way new lovers do
How soon it is over
New lovers do not care
They are not so old and mechanical
The way married couples can be
The cornfield still beckons
The soft grass still yields
Apple orchards still produce fragrance
Young love fails to notice
The harvest of newly discovered bodies
Twined in passion, love promised eternal
They walk hand in hand
Pledging never to forget
Young love, how naive
