The wisdom in God's commands

If you sat in a quiet place for a few minutes and thought about what kind of person you are, how would you feel? Do you think that you're kind to people, understanding and forgiving; or do you think that you're too hard on people, or perhaps bad - tempered? If you really sat down and analysed your whole being, you might just be a little shocked.

We live in a world where everything is so fast - moving and commercial. Each day we go about our business the best way we can - or do we? There may be stresses in our jobs, problems at home, or within our family circles. Everyone has problems, but some people have more than others. We relate to things differently, and some days we're more able to cope than others. It depends what our circumstances are, of course, and there are so many scenarios that it is impossible to mention them here, but ill health, redundancy, bereavement and bullying are to mention a few.

Throughout your life, have you ever wondered why you keep having problems? It's so easy to blame other people for our misfortunes, or maybe bad luck, or being in the wrong place at the wrong time. "Why me, all the time?" you might think. Well, your state of mind can either help you to get back on your feet, or it can drag you down. If you get dragged down, you may well find yourself making the same mistakes over and over again. What can you do to change things and to gain wisdom as you get older?

The teachings of the bible are as relevant in our lives today as they were when they were written all those years ago. So many people in our world have distanced themselves from God's word, and they are suffering as a result. We all know of the Ten Commandments and they are easy to understand, but do we heed them?

In our commercial world many businesses are open seven days a week, to cater for consumer demand. Our lives are so busy that now we treat each day of the week the same. Many of us work as usual, and there seems to be no time to actually spend with our families. Part of the reason for family breakdowns is that there is no time spent together, or maybe a more accurate description is that there is no quality time spent with each other. The Commandment stated that the seventh day is the Sabbath, to keep holy.

Give respect to your father and mother. As you're aware, so many families throughout the world have a breakdown of the traditional family unit. Some young people today contain so much anger against their parents, against their teachers, and against society
