Jason and I had known each other forever. I had waited silently over the years secretly wishing he would ask me out. Hoping that he would be the guy I would share my first kiss with. Earlier this week part of my wish had been granted.
Standing on the sideline like always watching Jason and the rest of the football team practice he walked over and completely took me by surprise.
"Hey Lee Lee." He greeted me using the nickname I'd grown fond of over our 17 year friendship. "Will you go out with me Saturday night?" He asked before I had a chance to even speak to him.
I stood gawking at him like a complete idiot before answering with a simple yes, and leaving abruptly to find Ariel and discuss my wardrobe with her.
The night had finally come. The night I'd dreamed and wished for my entire life was here and I stood staring, frowning at myself in my full length mirror hanging on the back of my door. This was the first outfit we had decided on and I had it on again for the 3rd time.
"Leighann you look great." My best friend Ariel said looking at me in my favorite skinny jeans, black tunic and black suede over the knee boots.
"I still think it's too plain, and I'm wearing too much black." I complained
"Hush up! You look great now get out of here or else you'll be late and Jason will think you're standing him up." Ariel said pushing me out the bedroom.
I took one last look at myself with a doubtful shrug and headed down the stairs. This was our first date I just wanted everything to be perfect including the kiss I was hoping to receive at the end of the night.
I took the short walk to the little cafe where Jason and I were supposed to meet. I was a nervous wreck ready to turn and walk the distance back home. What was I thinking? Jason was too perfect a guy for somebody like me. His hotness was god like and I was just cute. Common word used to describe a puppy or something.
I turned the corner to find Jason standing on the corner in dressed in all black waiting on me.
"Leighann you look great!" He exclaimed
"Thanks. Great minds huh?" I said blushing
He took my hand and led me to our table. We sat and talked over fries and sandwiches enjoying each other's company. This was the best night of my life so far. After we had finished eating we sat and talked for a while before Jason decided he should walk me back home.
We arrived at my house too quickly for me. Standing on the dark porch in silence I grew nervous. I was terrified as I anticipated what was to become of my evening. I was sure by this point that he would kiss me, but why hadn't he kissed me yet? What if our lips weren't compatible and I didn't respond to the kiss properly? What would happen to our friendship?
"Lee Lee." Jason interrupted the silence and my thoughts. "I had a great time tonight and I'm really glad you decided to go out with me. Thanks for a great night."
"Um" Was all I could manage to say. I looked away embarrassed.
He took my face in his warm hands and lifted it to his. He chuckled lightly and said "It's my first time too."
And then it happened. The fireworks started, my heart was racing, beating against my rib cage, threatening to break free. He pressed his soft lips against mine and kissed me gently. It was soft and sweet. Passionate as his tongue gently explored mine and mine his. When it was over he pressed his forehead to mine and said "my first kiss, my first love. Leighann Davis I love you."
I choked back the tears fighting the lump rising in my throat and responded the same "my first kiss, my first love Jason Walker I love you too."
