Poetry: Thanksgiving prayers

by abcelephant

Created on: November 12, 2009

I bow my head and shut my eyes

my fingers tightly overlay

each other as I mutely mumble

my prayers for today

I feel as if He sits with me

across the polished wood

his presence wafting toward me

my prayers understood

next to Him sits a girl

her hair spilling on the table

a girl who's eyes shine brighter than most

who's told many a fable

the children she had bore, I'd held

their bodies snug against my chest

their little eyes wearily fluttering

aching for some rest

life had blown into their mouths

health coursed through their veins

their radiant smiles brought forth expressions

impossible to feign

I lifted my head and grinned and Him

and quietly went to say

that, as my eyes ran over everyone,

my prayers have been granted for today
