Why is a call center employee one of the most important people in customer service? The customer service aspect of a business really centers around the employees dealing directly with the customers. Whether this means you are responsible for taking orders over the phone or just dealing with customer complaints, you are the one who is responsible for making sure that the customer has a place to talk, and be heard.
This means that you are the most important part of the customer service chain if you are in the call center. It doesn't matter if you are in a corporate call center, or just answering the phones at customer service in the store, you are one of the most important people in the company. You are the one that is allowing the customer to hear you, and vent if need be.
When you allow the customer to be heard, you are doing a really good service for not only the customer, but the company as well. The customer is going to be feeling good that someone took the time to listen to them, and the company is going to benefit by hearing something that the customer is saying to make the business that much better.
If a customer calls in and says that there was no milk in the cooler, you are gaining the chance to address the problem. Maybe you don't work in the store, or perhaps you are a manager who was gone for the day, and otherwise wouldn't have a chance to address this. Basically you have the opportunity now to talk to your employees, and talk to your suppliers as well to see where the problem is.
If you are a customer, you know you have an area where you can express your feelings to the company. If someone did a good job, or if something was not right, you can tell the company. Sometimes companies will even reward you with a gift card, or some other measure simply for calling in and sharing an experience with the company. Any company would be happy to hear about your experiences, and this is where you can do so.
Call centers are an amazing thing to have. Whether you are talking to customers about problems or concerns, or you are just taking orders or product requests, you are interacting with the customers. This is why the call center employees are the most important part of the customer service process.
