Everyone can use more space when it comes to living. Using your patio as part of your living space not only allows you to enjoy the outdoors during warm weather but expands your space for entertaining. A patio can be more then just a wood or brick structure to put a few lawn chairs on. It can become an oasis to relax in and enjoy the outdoors.
When creating an outdoor living space on your patio you want more then just a few simple chairs cluttering the space. You want it to feel functional, inviting and warm just the same as any indoor space. Begin with a good arrangement. Place barbecue grills, refrigerators and sinks at the closest proximity to the kitchen. Outdoor kitchens are very practical when a homeowner entertains a lot. Having an outdoor kitchen provides convenience creating an area that flows the same as your indoor space. Kitchen and living area can both be recreated on your patio to extend the space and use of your home.
Make some decisions. Decide what you want your space to look like, how you want it to feel and what you would like to use in that space. Such as furniture, lighting, accessories and what you will use it for most. Think about your kitchen arrangement. The type of table and chairs you would like to use in that space. Think about how you want the area to flow with your living space. You want your space to be open and easy to navigate just as any indoor area but mostly you want it to flow with the natural setting of the outdoors.
Wicker furniture is a good choice for outdoor seating. It's practical, cheap and durable. You can purchase wicker in a variety of styles and colors, it's also easily painted for a change. Wooden furniture can be custom made to fit the style of the homeowner. You can make or purchase custom cushions in a variety of colors and fabrics to be durable and match your taste. Choose colors, textures and designs that are similar to the furniture you use inside your home. This creates flow. It makes the outdoor space look and feel as though it is an extension of the inside of your home.
Think about using practical accessories. Decorate the space just as you would your living room. Cover one wall in an over-sized clock. Choose a style that works well outdoors such as one that is vintage and already weathered. Use over-sized lighting as well. Outdoor spaces are already open so go big. Using a large accessory in a space that is naturally large will bring the space down to size making it feel more intimate. Choose a color
