Living with someone with addiction is a life of hell on this earth. It is worse than living with a corpse- a dead body kept with us. The problems and unending sorrow that are created by such a person are beyond any imagination. It is a constant torture. It is a hell alive.
My Own Life
I have been living with my alcohol addicted son-in-law who got addicted through some friendship a few years ago. He was normal and was very helpful to the family until he got addicted. But once he became the trapped victim of intoxication he turned out a terrible torture to the family. Today, we have lost all peace of mind and are spending our days hopelessly just like puppets walking on a rope of fear over a pit of burning fire. No words can describe the agony we experience every minute.
I consented to the marriage of my only daughter with him since I found him a very brilliant gentleman and my daughter loved him very much. But I never imagined that it would turn like this.
My Daughter's Life in a Furnace
My daughter stepped into his life as his loving partner with thousands of bridal dreams and it was true that they had a very happy time in the beginning. But somehow my son in law got addicted to alcohol without her knowledge and slowly became a burden to he and all around. All our attempts in the beginning to check him and bring him back were in vain. At last I had to separate her from her husband and bring her to my house.
Groping in Darkness
I cannot dare to look into the face my beloved daughter, shedding tears of disappointment and despair each and every moment. The drunkard son in law began to come to my house and torture my daughter. Shouting all the time in indecent language, attacking us by throwing everything at us, demanding money for his drink, quarreling with every one that he meets and not attending his job, he is causing eternal hell for us every second. From dawn to dark and again from dark to dawn it is only miserable darkness in our lives.
We are Living with a Copse Alive
You can well imagine what would have been our reactions when this son in law was carried home by some strangers after drinking, quarreling and thrown out in the street. He vomited on those who had helped him and brought him home. He shouted at them in harsh words which are unworthy to mention here and even attacked them. Although he was imprisoned thrice for public nuisance he could not get rid of his addiction. What a curse he is to our family making all of us cry for his very being!.
We Tried Everything
We went to so many rehabilitation centers and tried all kinds of treatments and counseling. But we are unable to bring this stiff-necked devil under any spell or influence. Only God is our resort. And we surrender all our hope to God dreaming that he will be all right one day at least for the sake of my innocent daughter.
When will Our Misery End?
What can we do with this misery of addiction? Ca we have any hope of life? We can not throw the addicted out since he has become the life partner of my daughter. A marital relationship is considered so holy and inseparable in our tradition that only death can solve this. Until death parts them asunder no other way of relief. Suffer, suffer and suffer only.
Addiction the Cursed Disease
Many say that addiction is only a disease. But it is worse than any disease. The problem is that it does not affect just the addict who is said to be sick. It affects all, the loved ones, who try so hard to help him. They suffer even worse by treating him. Living with an additive personality is a real curse!
