For a parent with children, winter can be a difficult time because the weather will derail plans without any notice. Children tend to get cabin fever if they are stuck inside for too long. Planning some fun outdoor and indoor activities is a good way for parents and children to enjoy quality time together, and it is a great way to ensure that every member of the family maintains their sanity throughout the seemingly long winter.
Here are some things that parents and children can do together.
*Ice skating -
Ice skating is always a fun activity. Many communities have public outdoor rinks where the cost to skate is minimal or non-existent. There are places that will allow you to rent skates for a modest fee, but you may be able to find a place that sells used ice skates at a reasonable price.
*Ice hockey -
A family might be able to play ice hockey together at a public ice skating rink, provided it isn't crowded. If you can't play as a family, look into opportunities for the kids to play and for the parents to be their active cheerleaders.
*Bobsledding -
Bobsledding is somewhat like a toboggan and the courses are similar. If you live in a very cold winter climate, it's quite likely that you will be able to find a place at which you can go bobsledding as a family.
*Sledding -
Sledding is an activity that parents and children have been doing together for ages. It is a fun activity, so long as there is sufficient snow, and it provides some excellent family togetherness time.
*Skiing or snowboarding -
Although it can be costly to do, skiing and snowboarding are very fun winter activities for parents and children. Most ski resorts are equipped to deal with beginning skiers and have instructors who will teach children the basics on a "bunny" hill. Ski places can rent you all of the supplies, and there are other fun activities to do there as well.
*Read together -
Children love to curl up in their parents arms or laps and snuggle with their parents while listening to a story. When parents read to children, the children become more interested in reading later in life. Special time like this is time that will be cherished by both the parents and the children. It's the stuff of which memories are made.
*Family game time -
Create a family game time so that children have a regularly scheduled day and time at which they can expect to play games with their parents and siblings. You can play board games, card games, or even something crazy like Twister. Scrabble or Boggle or other
