A homemade Christmas is not an easy thing to pull off. In fact, for many families it takes years to truly accomplish a homemade Christmas. Some times it is easier to a create in steps and over the years. These tips can help any family move in that direction.
Decorations may the easiest way to begin the homemade transition. There are thousands of choices and they don't all have to made during the holidays. They come in every level of expertise. The whole family can participate. Some excellent choices might be
tri-bead ornaments, terra- cotta crafts, and clothespin crafts.
Christmas gifts can mean a lot when they come from the heart. Homemade gifts often reflect more time, thought and effort. It is helpful to draw names for personal gifts in the family. That ensures that each member can receive a homemade gift and minimizes the stress of making many gifts. In some homes gifts from Santa are not included in the homemade scenario, magic little elves make them. The key is to do what works best for each family.
If the family has younger children it may require a little more engineering with time and space for crafting. If presents are to be a surprise the work has to be hidden. Make an "elf at work" sign to display on the door that lets others know that creation is under process and entrance is not allowed.
When time becomes a factor and Christmas is just around the corner head to the kitchen. Christmas candies are an excellent choice and with modifications even diabetics can have candies. Everyone could use a little chocolate cheer.
It does not have to be sweet. A favorite gift is this neighborhood is the cook who brings frozen soups in small containers. They are delicious and holidays would not be the same without her warm soups.
Gingerbread houses can be personalized in a number of ways to make them a very unique gift. Imagine receiving a gingerbread house that has the faces of the family decorated on the cookies. Don't forget to include any family pets. It all the sudden becomes a once in a lifetime gift.
Baked clay ornaments are a base for many creative ornaments. There is a lot of Christmas magic that begins in the kitchen.
Practical can be also be appreciated. Sewing, knitting, crocheting and quilting are wonderful options. Want the family to have a homemade snuggee? Crochet or knit one. Need a new blanket for a bed, quilt one.
Add a few more touches of homemade items each Christmas. Eventually homemade will become the tradition, or at least part of the tradition.
