Fun things to do with snow in winter

In parts of the world, winter is synonymous with snow, and if you want to make it through the winter with your sanity in tact, you've got to deal with the fact that there will be snow throughout the course of the winter. If you like to play in the snow, you'll hope for lots of snow, and you will want it to be heavier than the powdery stuff that doesn't pack well. There are all sorts of things that you can do with good, heavy and packable snow.

Here are some ideas to get you started.

*Go sledding -

Look for a nearby hill where you can take a toboggan and sled. Then go riding down the hill on your sled. You can make it more fun by having a couple of people go down the hill with you.

*Make snow sculptures -

Instead of making a snowman or doing something more traditional, make sculptures. You can make animals, abstract shapes or anything else. Have a contest with your family, friends and neighbors and appoint judges to pick the best sculptures.

*Make snow cones -

Remember that refreshing summer treat called a sno cone that people love in the summer? Why not have a REAL snow cone? Gather up some snow, put it in one of the paper sno cone holders and add flavored sno cone syrup. It might be find to taste real snow.

*Have a snow ball fight -

As long as the snow can be packed into good softball sized balls, you can have a snow ball fight. The more people who participate, the more fun the fight will be. When more people participate, you never know who is going to throw a ball at you, so while you are throwing at someone else, you've got to be prepared to dodge the balls that are coming at you.

*Build a snow fort -

Kids love building snow forts. Once again, the snow has to be hard enough to pack and create that fort. You need a lot of snow to make a fort, but if there isn't enough to build an entire fort or fortress, you can at least build a wall.

*Make snow angels -

If you lie on your back in the snow and move your arms and legs out from your body and move them back and forth, you will make an angel with your imprint. You can do this as long as there is enough snow to cover the ground completely.

*Make a snow man -

Few things are the essence of winter in the way that snow is, but a snow man is part of that. To make a snow man, you need a lot of snow. The snow has to be heavy so that it can be packed. A snow man is made by rolling a snow ball into the snow and making it larger and larger as it rolls.

A basic snow man is made by stacking three large snow balls on top of
