In the drab cold months of winter, there is one sure fire way to warm it up: with your fashion! Winter is known for its drab black and white wardrobe. So, fight back with your own pop of color and patterns.
One must have is a bright colored wool coat. Great color options include red, maroon, teal, gold, green, and if you're really bold, purple. The thing all these colors have in common is that they are jewel tones. Every person on the planet can wear a jewel toned color in any accessory or article of clothing. Just be prepared for stares of admiration when you step out of the house in your bright new coat. Amidst the sheets of white snow, you will definitely stand out in a great way.
The second must have for the winter season are gloves. Whether you choose cashmere lined, genuine pony leather, or a cheaper vinyl, choose another pop of color. If you currently have a bright colored wool coat, go for a white, black or grey glove. However, if you have a black, white, or grey coat, be bold and beautiful with any and all colors of gloves.
A third must have for winter are scarves and hats. These come in a variety of patterns, colors, textures, and materials. The best thing about scarves and hats is you don't have to worry about whether they make you look fat. Any pattern will work with any body figure. Around Christmas time go for traditional greens, red, and golds. After Christmas try icy colors of blue and silver. But don't be afraid to be super out there with hot pink, purple, and lime green accents of color in your beanies and scarves.
A final must have for winter are cords. Cords are as comfortable as jeans but come in so many more colors. Plus it adds a different texture to your outfit that creates visual interest. Again stick to jewel tones. You must be careful with cords. If you tend to be bigger on top wear a lighter color on the bottom and a darker color on top. Otherwise, switch it up. If you dress the bigger half of you in a darker color, it will create the illusion that you are more proportioned. Cords are a great way to mix up your day to day jean addiction.
So if you're stuck with a closet full of boring colors, get out there and hit the sales! Spice up your winter wardrobe with warmth. When in doubt, ask yourself if you would put a decoration of that color in your house for the holiday season. Also, ask if that is a color of a gemstone. If you answer yes to either of these questions, buy it!
