The bell tolls, somewhere in the distance a lone bugle plays the last retreat. The wind whispers gently in our ears as we stand amidst the sea of white marble graves. Souls taken from this world...this world that has been in constant turmoil since time began..
When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will only then know peace. Soon it has to come to a time when we the people choose between fear and love. Too many lives taken, like a game of chess...the pieces tossed away as the game is lost once more.
The top generals and politicians sit in their cosy nests whilst the rest of the people sacrifice their beloved ones to yet another conflict. Always the innocent who in the end have to pay the costly price. We of course all know that religion and politics cause bloodshed...but today is Veterans Day and we of course shall remember and pay our respect to those who have long passed over, were taken away from this world abrubtly, to those who once served but now work in an entirely different enviroment and to those who still serve in our armed forces worldwide and our allied forces on this present day. We salute to them all.
To the brave men and women and our allied forces who share the same path. Who are trying to defend those who cannot defend themselves, who fight for freedom and liberty.
As the old veterans retrace painful steps back in time, missing comrades no longer around, as families miss husbands, wives, their brothers, uncles, fathers, mothers, sisters, daughters and sons, cousins, friends, we should take a moment and reflect and think what if it was someone whom we dearly loved?
As a veteran myself (Airforce nurse) and my husband (Army veteran) we remember our friends, relatives and comrades we have stood with and worked with, whom we have known and those we did not know...the days pass by into months and years... but no matter what.. one thing remains the same.. the grief and loss that is felt amongst all that have been and known of others who gave a part of their lives to defend their country..is no different as time passes by. Whether you are American or British...we all feel the same pain and grief... we all bleed the same...
Memories are indeed beautful things, but there is a price to pay... the pain and sadness that comes with those memories on a day like this with that one question that is always uttered off our lips..WHY?
