Why people believe cosmetic surgery will give them more confidence

It may be what's on the inside that counts, but there is certainly something to be said about what's on the outside, as well. Even if it doesn't matter all that much to other people, it does matter in the way that we regard ourselves. In all honesty, though, I think that most of us would have to admit that we are guilty of judging people by appearance, at least some of the time. When it comes to romance and physical attraction, it is the exterior appearance of a person that initially draws us to them.

That being said, most of us also have something about our physical body or face that we aren't satisfied with. There was a day when we had no option but to just get used to it, grin and bear it, so to speak. That day is long gone! Today, you can take that area that you are bothered by and have a skilled surgeon transform it into something that you find beautiful. Not only will that one part change, but other parts of you will change, too. You will feel better about yourself and in doing that, you will probably smile more, walk taller, and exhibit more confidence.

I, along with most other people, had one area that I was less than pleased with. For me, it was my breasts, which were not only small, but pretty much "empty" at the top. After literally years of getting teased and tormented, all the way from middle school to adulthood, I made that turning point decision to take matters into my own hands and set up an appointment with a plastic surgeon. The next appointment that I set up was to go through with the procedure to change that area that bothered me so much.

After the procedure was over, my "A" cup (barely) had transformed into a beautiful, sag-free "D" cup. There was pain, there was some emotional response that was very close to sadness, but only for a short time. The sadness was nothing more than the fact that when I initially came home from the surgery, there was bruising and the implants were high on the chest wall. These are normal results as it takes time to heal and for the implants to drop into position. I had been warned of this beforehand, but I still had hope that they would look perfect on day one.

What did happen, even on that first day, was that my self-confidence soared. I felt better about myself externally, but that feeling most definitely internalized as well. I no longer had to listen to people make little jokes about my petite frame. I no longer had to shop forever to find something that would fit right. This had been a huge problem, since I have all the other curves. People actually treated me a little better, too, which may be unfair but it is reality. People do respond to outward appearances and for that reason, cosmetic surgery can indeed raise a person's self-confidence.
