Tiny fingers, plump and round,
grab at the ring on my finger
she bares her tiny teeth at me
and I smile as I watch her gaze linger
her fingernails graze the pale, delicate skin
and she tinkers with my ring
the words roll innocently off her tongue,
"Where is it from, this thing?"
the edges of my tired lips
crinkle as they turn
and momentarily I thought of the past
of my brief, life-changing sojourn
two scores prior today
during the month of november
a man sat under fallings leaves
leaves I'd always remember
they crunched under the sole of my shoe
in the breeze they twisted and danced
without hesitation I attempted imitation
and glided through the air in a trance
the corner of my eye watched the man grin
and he stood up under the tree
we laughed and skipped and closed our eyes
until he fell into me
from the grass I watched the leaves
float away as time flew by
and with them I knew that I wouldn't follow
not anymore, not I.
The man approached me from behind
and feathered something under my nose
the little girl watched him with large, curious eyes
and I said, "Your grandfather knows."

Poetry: What I'm thankful for
I need no life-changing fortune
To be grateful for what I have
No need to pursue happiness
When for my simple life I am
For wind and rain and green growing things,
Let us be thankful.
For gladdening sun and bright blue sky,
Let us be thankful.
by Ila Ann
Be thankful
For every day
For every person
In their own special way
Be thankful for blue skies
For warm sunlight
by Terrence Aym
The sun has risen once again.
The touch of your soft, warm hand,
The blossoming garden outside our door,
What I'm thankful
My humble thanks I give to Thee
For a life of relative peace and harmony
While some starve and suffer horrors untold
I feast
