Homemade dog food recipes

Many dog owners, including myself, make the decision to switch to homemade dog food, because of the negativity involved with commercial dog food. Today, I am going to present a recipe, describing what I prepare for my dog, on a daily basis. By the way, she is a 65 pound lab mix.

First, I use 1 pound of ground Turkey, which I purchase at the grocery store, for about a dollar a pound. Pretty good deal, eh? The majority of your dog's meal, should be comprised of a good meat source. Dogs are very closely related to the wolf, therefore need a high amount of quality meat, on a daily basis, in order to remain in tip top condition and shape. I use ground turkey, because it it the cheapest meat source, but feel free to experiment. Remember, shaking things up is a good thing, if done gradually. Also, eggs can be used as a protein source occasionally.

Next, add some vegetables. Dogs are related to wolves, but unlike wolves, dog are not carnivores, but omnivores, therefore needing meat and plants, to remain healthy. You can use almost any vegetable you like. Remember, no corn! Dogs can't digest it! Yesterday, I gave my pup two pieces of broccoli, and 2 baby carrots.

Also, add a hand full of parsley, which makes dogs breath smell better, and combats "Doggie breath". This is a very good thing! Also, parsley is full of vitamins and minerals.

Next, add some oregano, which is also full of many different types of vitamins and minerals.

This next ingredient, is the one a lot of people ignore, but I really, really encourage you not to. Add 1 large egg shell. The meat you are giving your pup, contains high amount6s of phosphorous. This can cause damage in dogs. The egg shell, will provide calcium for your dog, and combat phosphorous levels. Remember, a healthy dog, has balanced phosphorous/calcium levels. That is very, very important!

Add some flaxseed and fish oil. This provides the dog with omega 3 fatty acids, and makes way for a shinier, healthier coat.

Next, are a few supplements to add. Add some Spirolina and Kelp. These contain many essential vitamins and minerals. This is very important!

Add some glucosamine/condroitatine, for healthy joints.

Blend in blender with 1 cup water. The water is very important, because it adds moisture to the food, and dogs don't always drink as much as they should. So, that a wrap. Enjoy!
