A Biblical Exposition of Women in Leadership

When the Bible is brought together as a whole, it shows a complete understanding for the roles of both man and woman. There are many buzz words in our society today that are thrown around in political arenas such as equality and suffrage. Too many Americans have dived into intolerance or even hatred over this issue.

In this article, I will discuss the topic of women leadership as it applies to the nation, the work place and within the family since the philosophy of the day tends to separate these into individual and unrelated issues. Because of this philosophical trend in modern society simple issues of leadership have been easily distorted. Stories of sexual immorality in the political offices, working environments and, God forbid, even in the marital bedroom have been privatized and reduced to petty obscurities. Issues that Paul the Apostle wrote so adamantly about in several epistles are ignored simply because of this philosophy of privatized individuality.

The first step must therefore be the removal of the blindfold. Privatized individuality is a deceptive paradigm that has blossomed in the twentieth century. There are many parts that make up this monster. Some of these parts that I will discuss are tolerance, individuality and secularism. There are more than these but these are the foundation to this form of thinking. Once this thought process has been removed, we will see more clearly God's word on the topic of Women's leadership.

Tolerance has always and must be forever a cornerstone in the Christian Church. Tolerance gives us the ability to forgive, to love someone where they are in their walk, and most of all to be an example for Christ in a godless world. This is an age old issue in the Church beginning with St. Basil in the 4th century. This form of tolerance has prevented Christian from protecting themselves and their families from some of the world's greatest evils. In the 4th century going to war was considered wrong regardless of reason. A soldier was to abstain from communion a minimum of three years to display his repentance. (Runciman, 33) Even in our society today, there is a belief that scripture commands a pacifist Christian only when Luke 22:36 permits a disciple to carry a sword.

Individuality is likewise a blessing from God. It provides us with our creativity, style
