Most of us know the meaning behind Christmas and honor the true meaning. Midnight Mass is one of the most beautiful ceremonies I have ever attended. I love going to the churches that set up nativity scenes recreating that night of the birth of Christ. No one can take from us the joy of our own individual methods of celebrating the memory of the birth of Jesus.

Now apart from the religious meaning of Christmas is also the fun side. This time of year is filled with excitement, parties and brisk weather changes. The children are filled with anticipation of the coming of Christmas and thoughts of Santa, cookies and milk. It is truly a joyous time of the year! I love the glitz and glamour provided by the commercials with the Christmas Music, decorations and happiness. This is the one time of year that you seem to see more people in good humor and in a spirit of relaxation. People seem to be more tolerant, giving, loving and excited during the holiday seasons. A lot of these good feelings are brought about by the commercialization presented to remind us of the season we are entering.

Let's face it! Our world has been going through so much through out eternity that we sometimes need a little jump start to remind us that there is a new season upon us. The commercialization doesn't change my attitude about the meaning of Christmas but adds to the excitement. I love walking into the malls and hearing all the beautiful Christmas Music. The decorations that are put up only enhance my pleasure of shopping. The commercials on TV are some of the prettiest you'll see.

So no, I don't think Christmas is becoming too commercialized. The beauty and taste that is used by the various companies, stores, etc. in commercializing Christmas I find enjoyable. Imagine going to your local mall and hearing no music or seeing any decorations. I shutter to think how dull this time of year would become without the enhancements provided by the commercialism. We all know why they do it and I don't care because it brings a needed excitement to a blessed event that I love to celebrate.

The world seems to want to shut out the joy of Christmas in it's efforts to celebrate this joyous occasion. I want to see us get back to the joy I have always known at this time of year. Let the music begin sooner and the laughter continue through out the year. We are all in need of a little reminder of the joys of life. So if the retailers want to begin reminding me sooner of the excitement and making the places around me more pleasant with their music and decorations, I say Yes!
