The wisdom in God's commands To begin the journey of understanding the wisdom in God's commands we have to first understand that God is our loving Heavenly Father and that just like any father He wants the best for His children. We must also understand what it is to be wise and how that is not the same as being knowledgeable. Life is like a forest and we need to rise above the trees to understand where to go. Unfortunately we weren't given wings or a map. We were, however given clear directions to help us in our journey and help ensure that all who desire to will return to Heaven. These directions are given in inspired documents including the Old and New Testaments of The Holy Bible and other writing of good and inspired men. Also we have been given many righteous examples throughout history including prophets, apostles, evangelists, preachers and other spiritual leaders. You will notice, as you read in Genesis that the tree that contained the forbidden fruit was the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Satan convinced eve that if she ate of that fruit she would be as the god's, being immortal and having all knowledge. One thing that Satan did not, in his subtlety, explain is that knowledge without wisdom does not offer the ability to act appropriately. Giving a person knowledge without wisdom is like giving a two year old a steak knife and sending him out to play with the other neighborhood children. Without an understanding of the appropriate uses for the steak knife there is little hope of a positive outcome. So at this point we have identified three obstacles in our journey to understand the wisdom in God's commands. The first obstacle is in understanding who God the Eternal Father is and what his purposes are. Can we trust him? Why would he care about us? What does God have to do with our day to day lives? Luckily there have been men throughout the ages who have been instructed by God to write down and preserve His dealings with man. Have you ever heard of a man by the name of Abram who lived several thousand years ago? The name of Abram may not be familiar to you because God came down and spoke to him and told him he would be the father of many nations. God gave him a blessing that his seed should be more in number than the stars of the heavens or than the sands of the seashore. God also gave him a name. The name of Abram, which means father, was replaced with Abraham, which means great father or father of many. And why did God do this? Because it was
