Cosmetic surgery was once something that we only saw the stars and the exceedingly wealthy getting, but today, that has changed dramatically. More and more "regular" people are going under the knife for beauty. There are many reasons for the decisions being made by individuals, especially women, but most (if not all) of them boil down to one thing and that is the improving of one's appearance. Often, the improvement will extend far beyond the part of the body or face that is actually worked on, too. There are three major areas that cosmetic surgery can affect and they are proportions, youthfulness, and confidence.
*Proportions
Some people grow up and just aren't quite proportionate for one reason or another. This was me. I have a very curvy bottom half, not fat, but femininely curved. That is nice and I am glad that it is so, but having had to wear a body cast on my upper body during my key developmental years, my top half was stinted in its growth, to say the least. I opted to have my breasts enlarged and am now a much more balanced woman. Clothes fit better, I feel better, and I don't have to worry about people are thinking. That probably shouldn't matter that much, but the fact is that it does.
*Youth
Cosmetic surgery can turn back the hands of time. We live in a society here in the Western World that judges many things based on appearance. We are inundatd with the concept of youthfulness and often, that affects how we are perceived regarding everything from career opportunities to building relationships. We hold more value in this society if we hold onto youth as long as we can. For some, that means going under the knife and enhancing what they already have or even adding things that they don't. We will often find that doors open up that have been shut to us before the surgical enhancement.
*Self-confidence
When we have cosmetic surgery, it is so that we can look better. Looking better means that we feel better. Feeling better often means that we present ourselves better. As good as we feel about ourselves, we transfer that to our faces. Smiling improves the appearance of every person, possibly more than anything else that we can do. If we look good and feel good, we show it in our smiles. That is a huge improvement that comes about with plastic surgery, regardless of what the procedure was done on.
