"Damnation" is a black sorcery spell printed as a rare for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Planar Chaos." So far, black along with white are the two colors that are known for creature destruction spells. White has notable spells such as "Wrath of God." In the case of Damnation, it is the black version to Wrath of God. This is a type of card that should be in any sort of deck that uses black cards.
The converted mana cost for Damnation is four. You will need two black mana and two colorless mana to play Damnation. For what Damnation can do, the converted mana cost is well worth it. Keep in mind that Damnation is a sorcery spell. It means that Damnation can only be cast during your turn.
What does Damnation do in the first place?
Damnation is the black mana equivalent to the popular white sorcery spell known as Wrath of God. When Damnation is played, all creatures are wiped out from the battlefield. This does not apply to creatures that have indestructibility. They are safe from getting destroyed from Damnation.
Spells that are able to wipe out creatures in general are extremely popular. When you think about it, Damnation comes in very handy for the most part if you find yourself outnumbered by your opponent's creatures. However, Damnation is not the only sorcery that can greatly wipe out your creatures. There is a black sorcery called "Plague Wind" which costs two black mana and seven colorless mana. It is the same as Damnation. However, all creatures except for yours get wiped out from the board. Like Wrath of God, creatures that get destroyed by Damnation cannot be regenerated.
So far, this is no longer legal in the standard format. However, Damnation is still good in the other formats. Like Wrath of God, Damnation will receive a lot of play. One may choose to use Wrath of God and Damnation over a spell such as "Day of Judgment" any day of the week in the extended format.
Interestingly enough, there is no black version of "Armageddon." Armageddon is the one spell that destroys all lands. Maybe there will be a black version of Armageddon in the future. Still, Damnation makes a decent spell as it gives black a good way to wipe out all creatures from the battlefield. Overall, Damnation is a great spell to have. If you are playing black and need ways to get rid of creatures, think about using Damnation.
