Buying new text books can cost up to hundreds of dollars. There are plenty of people who love to buy brand new books because they can afford it, or they simply enjoy the comfort of brand new smelling literature. The author and publisher are getting a fair share off of this, and if they are doing successful work, then they will get their moneys worth. I do not look at this as hurting the author or publisher at all, but more of doing a good deed for the public and for our planet.
Here is the wonderful cycle of what reselling old books does when someone is done using them. When the new-book-loving person is done with these books, they can then; in turn sell them back to the book store, and get paid for these books they bought months earlier[maybe it will even end up back there for the next round of books they'll need]. After selling these books back to the little book store they can make some money selling those books back to the public who are not so financially on their feet. Not only is this helping out other students or people of who are interested that are trying to get an education, but this is also reusing resources. If there are more books being reused, that is more paper we are not wasting ink on... meaning less trees that have to be cut down.
There are thousands of book stores around just this country, and if an author is well known and has a book in just half of those stores they will come back with a glorious profit. Reselling books should be looked at as a good thing for the planet and for those who are less fortunate and are in need or want to learn from the context of those books, or even those who just don't care for new books and would rather be giving an old book a new home
Every American is encouraged to recycle to help the planet, so shouldn't we also be encouraging each other to resell those old books we have sitting around getting dusty? Not only would you make a couple bucks... unless you are ever so generous and are just deciding to donate; you will also be putting a book in the hands of someone who can not afford to go buy it brand new.
