I was excited. This was the first Thanksgiving that my parents had let me spend away from home. They said that I could go to my friend Rodney's house to eat dinner this year.
Rodney was one of my best friends from 9th grade in high school. This was the 2nd year I have known him and this had been my first time going over to his house.
I walked up to the front door a knocked on the door, then put my arms deeper into my sleeves. Rodney opened the door. "Come on in!", he said with a smile. I walked in the door, where I could see his mother cooking for the big dinner. "Hi!", she said as Rodney ushered me upstairs to his bedroom. "Let's play some PlayStation 3!", he said, putting the new Call of Duty into the system...
Many hours had passed, and my legs had fallen asleep. "What time is it?", I asked. Just then, his mother called us down to eat. I went to wash my hands and rushed down the stairs(what? I love my turkey!) to eat. I sat down at the table and waited to be served, when Rodney came down the stairs. "Don't get too excited.", he said,"she can't cook to save her life." After more jokes of similar nature, we were bursting at the seams trying to hold our laughter in. His mom walked up with my plate, while holding a turkey leg in the other. She put my plate down, then slapped Rodney across the face......with the turkey leg. I couldn't hold my laughter in anymore and proceeded to laugh extremely hard. As hard as you would laugh if you saw someone get slapped with a (what was now a smoked) turkey leg. Rodney turned purple with embarrassment. Yes, I did say purple.
After these very....interesting events, Rodney and I went back to playing Call of Duty. I must say that that was the most awkward game of Call of Duty that I have ever played. His dog kept licking Rodney's face the whole game, which resulted in many pauses and frustrated deaths. I still wonder how it felt to be slapped by a blackened, crispy turkey leg(which tasted surprisingly good).
I had to say that was my most awkward and funny Thanksgiving ever.....until the next year.....
