iPhone app reviews: Pixel Pusher

Pixel Pusher is an inexpensive game that is somewhat challenging. It has kept me entertained for up to thirty minutes at a time, and that is one of the features of every app that I have ever enjoyed. If you want to play a simple game that actually delivers what the developers say it would deliver, then you have to try Pixel Pusher.

At first glance, Pixel Pusher looks like a cheap imitation of the original game of Snake. After all, many of us grew up playing the snake that ate more so that it would continue to grow. Pixel Pusher works in a similar way. The player has to try to catch all the stars while at the same time dodge all of the red boxes (or poisonous pixels). As the big blue pixel "eats" up the stars, the pixel grows, too. That will make the game more challenging, since it will become more and more difficult to try to dodge the red boxes.

I have to say that the first few minutes I played this game - I was hooked. I think that the developers did a very good job of bringing a classic arcade game, Snake, into the 21st century without using all of the outplayed graphics. The developers were quite creative of thinking of a way to relate the 21st century generation to a 20th century game.

In addition, the playability and the smoothness of gameplay was worth the 99 cents I paid for this game. Although the graphics are not the best, and the developers can easily fix that, I think that the premise as well as the gameplay of the game make up for the lack of advanced graphics. After all, we still play some games that are not in the realm of 3D, and we still enjoy them, too.

There are a couple of bugs within the app that can also be easily fixed. For example, I might be playing the app and after a few minutes, the app would crash. I always reboot my device after having downloaded an app (and before even first opening the app) in order to decrease the chances of the apps crashing. But, this did not seem to work. Fortunately, this is a very easy to fix problem. A little update would do the trick.

All in all, I would highly recommend Pixel Pusher to anyone who wants to play an entertaining and somewhat challenging game similar to the classic game of Snake.
