Layla "Reira" Serizawa is a character in the manga series by Ai Yazawa known as "Nana." She is a character that is not revealed until sometime later in the series. Despite her somewhat late appearance, Reira happens to be one of the most important characters in the series. She plays a multitude of critical roles that drives the characters and the story forward. Despite that, Reira is the unknowing "victim" that gets dragged in the middle of the web of deceit that surrounds most of the main characters of Nana.
Her level of naivety is on par with that of Nana Komatsu a.k.a. Hachi, one of the two main protagonists of Nana. However, she does have a past that is also an important driving force of the story. Reira makes her appearance in the series around the time where Hachi and Nana Osaki, the other Nana and other protagonist, see a Trapnest concert in Hachi's hometown.
When the old friends get together, Reira is not involved as much as it mainly progresses upon Ren Honjo and Nana making up and the love triangle with Hachi, Nobu, and Takumi. Like Hachi, Reira gets into her fair share of troublesome situations due to poor judgment. It is revealed that Reira and Takumi were friends since elementary school. The two of them became friends with Ren and Yasu during high school. However, Reira and Yasu dated each other at the time but broke it off due to Takumi's influence. During that time, it was revealed that Reira had known Ren longer than Nana has.
Through Reira, it is revealed that Yasu and Ren were in a band together called Brute. She also expresses affections for Ren and Takumi. As a result, it does put her at odds with Nana and Hachi respectively. However, Takumi only sees Reira as a sister instead of a romantic interest. It is also revealed that Reira is the basis for the name Trapnest. Without Reira, Trapnest would not exist as it implies that she is a caged bird under Takumi's grasp.
After Nana and Ren are reunited, "Blast" and Trapnest start to become rivals with each other. During that time, she ends up being in a relationship with Shin, the youngest and newest member of blast. Shin was moonlighting as a male prostitute for money. During the time, it was a sex-only relationship. But, Reira and Shin do develop feelings for each other. However, the sexual romance is forbidden due to Reira being twenty-two and Shin being only fifteen.
Reira is perhaps the only person in the series that has a feeling of loneliness and becomes vulnerable to Shin. This is perhaps one of the most interesting character dynamics as it could ruin Trapnest. If word got out about the relationship, Reira would be ruined and Trapnest would cease to exist. The two break the relationship despite strong feelings for each other. One of the most interesting aspects of the dynamic behind Reira is that throughout all these problems, she retains her role as one of the major comic relief characters. Despite her beauty, Reira is perhaps one of the funniest characters in Nana. So far, the future or Reira's fate is somewhat unknown since Nana is currently on hiatus. She makes the excellent idol with a lot of secrets and emotional baggage.
