Thanksgiving Leftovers
The turkey is bone-bare, remnants dry as dust.
The pies are gone, only crumbs remain, brushed from shirt tails and aprons.
The coffee pot is empty - just memories of its fresh-brewed scent lingers.
The football game is over - our team won, of course.
The movies we rented are boxed and ready to return.
Our hearts are full and tears are shed at the sound of goodbye.
"Until next year", we weep on each other's shoulders as the cars are loaded and ready
for the long road away from home.

Contains a multitude

I had the menu all planned out,
I knew what I was making.
The turkey, stuffed and in the pan,
The pumpkin pies were baking.
Your Leftovers
Another holiday has come and gone.
All the family has packed there bags
And left for the long trip home.
