Wisdom, as defined by Wikipedia is knowledge of what is true or right coupled with just judgment as to action; sagacity, discernment, or insight.
God tells us that "Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand, in her left hand are riches and honor." (Proverbs 3:13-16)
With this kind of promise, it is no wonder that the Bible is full of admonition to seek wisdom. How do you find the wisdom that God speaks of? There is no single place to find it. Simply living your life will guarantee the accumulation of some wisdom, however if you wish to have the blessings that are promised to those seeking her, you must be proactive in your search.
Wisdom is to be sought after. God will impart wisdom to all who ask. James states that "If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him." You can take the opportunity to search for her in every circumstance, knowing that with every trial and temptation, your knowledge and wisdom will increase. The best place to start is with the source of all wisdom...God. Search the scriptures for every reference to wisdom and knowledge. When you do this, you will acquire insight into the way that God works. As you search, the Holy Spirit will reveal the wisdom in God's Word, and help you to apply it to your life.
You can increase your wisdom by making a conscious effort to learn from the events in your life. At the heart of learning from experience is the attitude of humility. Proverbs, Chapter 11, starting with Verse 2, reads "When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom". God gives grace to the humble, and He will give wisdom to all who seek it. He will reveal your heart to you through times of trial and testing. "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." If you have a respect of and devotion to God and His word, you are well set to gain wisdom.
Another way to increase wisdom is to live with purpose. Don't limit your experiences in life. Travel to a different part of the country, or world if possible, at every opportunity. Surrounding yourself with the same people for your entire life can limit the chances you may have at expanding your knowledge and gaining wisdom from other cultures.
