There’s something magical in the air. You can see it in every child’s eye, you know, the glimmering sparkle and the increased dimples. Hearts filled with joy and there’s a dance in each and every step; Christmas must be near!
As the anticipation grows children become more creative I suppose. All of a sudden they look for things to make for gift giving or just to decorate. Whether it’s an ornament for the tree, popcorn on a string, a garland made of just about anything or even using regular items to embellish so Christmassy, kids take delight in preparing for that one special night. St. Nick will soon come their way leaving gifts to open the very next day.
Beautiful Ornaments – Be sure to pick up a pack of clear ornaments to have on hand for an easy craft to do in the spur of the moment. Either on the inside or outside of the ornament have glue drip down sides all around, sprinkle with glitter if on outside; pour glitter in ornament and keep turning ornament until most of the glitter is stuck to the glue. Hang to dry, tie ribbon around top of ornament.
Popcorn and Cranberry Garland – This is really fun to do in the evening with your child if you want to imitate the olden days where they used candlelight. Set several candles on the table, have your needle and thread already threaded. Put out a bowl of popcorn and a second bowl of cranberries then turn out the lights and string your cranberries and popcorn. This is so enjoyable with two or more people; it may become a tradition!
Model Magic Garland – Model Magic Clay by Crayola comes in a variety of colors. To make a garland for the Christmas tree or to drape your windows with, choose the colors you will use. Decide on a pattern, perhaps make 2 small balls of clay then 2 medium balls of clay and 1 large ball and now go backwards, 2 medium balls, 2 small balls then medium, large, medium and small again. Now that you have a plan you are able to make the amount of balls needed. Once you have enough balls to make say a 2 foot garland you can thread a needle with thread, tie one end with a knot and start threading the balls onto the thread as desired until you are done. Secure the end with a knot or two.
Model Magic Ornaments - Ornaments using clay can be made in various ways. One way would be to roll out white clay with a rolling pin. Use cookie cutters with a holiday shape and cut out the shapes from the clay as you would with cookies. With a pencil eraser, push
