The U.S. Economic Recovery Plan (The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009) focuses on stimulating the economy and creating jobs by investing in the nation's infrastructure overhaul, healthcare system, energy and environmental concerns, and improving the education system. The need for skilled professionals such as Engineers, Healthcare Providers, or Teachers to meet government stimulus goals will require specialized degrees. People with these specialized degrees will be in high demand to make our economy grow and many schools are focusing on these educational programs. It is a widely held fact that now, more than ever, higher-level education programs are appealing to the needs and concerns surrounding the of the nation's economic recovery plan.
U.S. News & World Report ranked the top 100 schools in the nation and out of the first 25 listed many of them are schools popular for engineering and technology, health sciences, and education. Out of the top 25 schools identified, two of them are institutes of technology and four of them offer great engineering programs.
Engineering and Technology - Engineering related careers will grow in response to the rebuilding of America's deteriorating infrastructure. President Obama has made it clear that rebuilding the roads, bridges, airports, and the like, is essential to long-term economic recovery. The U.S. government will invest $27 billion for critical repairs.
Undoubtedly, jobs in engineering and related fields will be in demand. It is interesting to note that six schools made the nation's top choices for engineering degrees.
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology was one of the schools identified for its engineering program. Not only did this school rank in the top 25 of the nation, but it also ranked fourth in the 20 best schools for engineering major. Many of the educational programs offered at this school parallels with the economic recovery act such as environmental engineering, computer science, or even biological engineering. If an engineering career appeals to you, The Massachusetts School of Technology may be on your short list of schools to consider. Other schools that made the cut into the top 25 related to engineering were California Institute of Technology, Cornell University, and Stanford University.
