Why let the weather stop you from getting in a good workout? Seriously, does the weather stop you from living any other aspect of your life? Do you skip work when it's raining? Do you not walk your dog in the snow? If it's too hot outside, do you stay in rather than go out to lunch? Of course not; so why should bad winter weather be any different? It really isn't that different. Sure, you may not be able to drive places if the roads are coated in ice, but you'll be able to get in a good workout if the weather is cold.
First of all, you can dress appropriately to combat the cold weather. Don't go running around in the snow wearing shorts and a t-shirt. You want to dress in long sweat pants, a long-sleeved, but lightweight, shirt, gloves, and a hat. You shouldn't wear a ski coat, of course, but wear clothing that leaves as little skin exposed as possible so that you can insulate your heat and protect yourself from the cold and windy weather. If you're dressed for it, then your workout is automatically that much more comfortable and easy.
You can always exercise indoors if you don't wish to brave the cold. Join a gym, use some weights that you have at home, or just do push-ups in your room; the point is, there are plenty of exercises you can do inside. In fact, who even lifts weights outside? Yes, I know that you probably want to run if you're researching outdoor workout articles, and you can run indoors if you have access to a treadmill. Keep in mind, though, that treadmills don't give you the same feeling as running outside; however, they can give you a good workout, so don't worry about exercising indoors.
If you're still insistent on exercising outdoors, then it is of paramount importance that you stretch effectively. Stay loose and get the blood flowing; if you don't, then your muscles can tighten up very easily and you'll be in tremendous pain. It's slightly more difficult to stay loose due to the cold weather, so add a few repetitions to your warm-up and stretching routine to compensate for it. A good stretch is important during any season, but the consequences are direr if you mess it up during the winter season.
Finally, you shouldn't let the weather damper your spirits. If you're dedicated to your workout, then you shouldn't be intimidated by the weather; if you don't feel like working out because the temperature is a little lower than you'd like, then tough luck. Keep your spirits high and remind yourself that you can do it; it'll be tough, but running outside isn't the end of the world. Stretch a lot, dress appropriately; if not, then you can always go to a gym or exercise in your room. Either way, the bad weather won't ruin your workout this winter.
