How to avoid spending too much on Christmas gifts?

Here are some tips to avoid spending too much on Christmas gifts:

1. Plan Ahead

Figure out how much money you can spend this year on Christmas. Decide who you want to buy for. Then figure out how much you want to spend on everyone. You could even write out a list of items you wish to get everyone. Start looking early for any deals.

2. Have a limit

Once you figure up your limit, don't go over it. Try and have a limit on everyone that you are buying for. This makes it easier to budget your money and not spend too much. Keep track of how much money you spend on everyone. This will not only help you budget your money but also help you to remember how much you spent already.

3. Look for deals/sales

Start shopping early and look for any deals or sales. Look online and in stores. When buying online try to use promotional codes and cash back programs. It's also a good idea to try not to spend a lot on shipping when buying online. The money spent on shipping could be spent on buying another gift for someone.

4. Think of cheaper gifts

For everyone on your Christmas list you should think of some inexpensive gifts. If you have expensive gifts to buy everybody then you will end up spending more than you plan to. You could buy everyone one expensive and one inexpensive gift if that works out well for you.

5. Make Gifts

If you are good with your hands or know how to make things then you could easily make gifts. You could make arts and crafts, candles, gift bags among other gifts. Be creative and think about what the person would enjoy.

6. Only buy for certain people

You don't have to buy for everyone that you know. Buy gifts for the closest people to you. For everyone else send out a Christmas card and write a personal note on it. This way you at least sent them a card even if you don't buy them a gift. You could even write a poem on the card if you are good at writing poems.

Remember that the holidays are not about money. It is about spending time with your loved ones and celebrating. If you are really low on money this year then talk to your loved ones and explain to them you can't spend that much. I'm sure they will understand. You could talk to some of your loved ones and do something together instead of exchanging gifts. You could watch movies, eat a meal, spend the day together and your family would still enjoy Christmas.

Merry Christmas!
