The best of 2009: Music (song)

This year has been an explosive one for music to say the least. There have been some outstanding releases that will be remembered for years to come, but there have also been some atrocious releases that will be remembered for all the wrong reasons! 2009 has seen a massive rise in the popularity of rock music in particular, with new bands making an appearance and also older bands jumping on the..well, band wagon for want of a better phrase. Not only has rock music become the latest trend, but there has also been a rise in popularity with dub step, drum and bass, and also, hip hop. Whatever your taste in music, there has been something for everyone this year. Let's have a look at some of the best songs from this year.

Lady GaGa- Just Dance

This article wouldn't be complete without a mention of Lady GaGa herself. Personally, this would not usually be my kind of music, but I hate to say, that when it first came out I loved it. This single, Just Dance, was one of the hottest selling singles from January and many months after. It is the single that introduced the world to Miss GaGa, and love her or hate her, this song was and is always going to be a hit. I guess you could describe this track as a mixture of elecronica, pop, and dance. It's one of those songs that is still a massive hit on the dance floor, and one that everybody knows the words to, even if you hate it. I personally preferred her second offering 'Pokerface', but I have to admit, this song is pretty damn good. I think the thing that made it so sucessful is due to a few reasons. The first one being Lady GaGa herself, at the time she released this track she was a very different, new artist, especially when it comes to her quirky style. There have since been artists in competition for weirdness, but Lady GaGa was one of the first this year. The second thing that makes the song so successful is the weird electronic voices and also that annoyingly catchy chorus.

Prodigy- Omen

The British techno act stormed back into the charts in February with the massive festival anthem 'Omen'. To be honest, I found this track a bit repetitive after a while of playing it, but when it was first released I was totally hooked on the thumping basslines and strange electronics. Omen was the track that really secured Prodigy a successful slot in the music industry, and it was definitely a risk, but one worth taking. They hand't been in the limelight since the nineties when they gained massive popularity with their rave hits such
