{The Difference}

It's the same bitter battle every night
The moon tries to commandeer the sky
By persuasion at first, then violence
She's a brute, but well meaning
No one heeds her message
She's there to aid
In her own way

She watches over the streets and seas
Casting blue on all she sees
She washes away the tortures of the day
The lies, the failures, the sins

The sun, ready to reign after the thousand year slumber
Emerges as the moon leaves, peacefully
Proud, in excess, of his domination he takes his position
Moving slowly, he brings the pain and the deceptions to light
He judges outwardly, and brings out the worst in those too weak

He feels like God.
Not a kind God, but a God of light and activity
And that is God enough.

No one save the moon and her splendor
The moon and her charm
The moon and her cathartic ways
Can save us now
