Natural body building versus steroid body building

For as long as mankind has been in existence he has sought ways to exceed the boundaries placed upon him by nature and become more than he was originally designed to be. A casual look through the self improvement section of your local bookstore will reveal countless books containing methods to grow bigger, increase your mental capacity and memory, improve your eyesight, have better sex, become faster, become more agile and a host of other and even more esoteric ways to improve the human condition is some form or fashion. When it comes to bodybuilding the debate invariably boils down to two main schools of thought: to go all natural or to use anabolic steroids to overcome the limitations inherent in our own particular genetic makeup. There is actually a third path that lies directly between the two main roads and that is to go natural with the use of legal and non-steroid supplementation, but for the purposes of this article we will focus exclusively on the main topics of debate, natural vs. anabolic steroids.

Lets define a couple of terms to begin with so we all stay on the same sheet of music. The word anabolic refers to muscle building as opposed to catabolic which is precisely the opposite. When we use the term anabolic steroid it refers to a family of chemicals that have been developed to artificially replicate the natural hormone testosterone. This is the hormone that is responsible for muscle growth in the body and the different variations of artificial testosterone are far too numerous to list and would go beyond the scope of this article. Some of the words that have been in the news and that you may have heard before are Dianobol (or d-bol), Winstrol, Deca-Durabolin (or deca) but there are many, many others. Let us get is clear from the outset that in most countries these substances are illegal for use unless prescribed or administered by a physician in order to treat a medical condition. There are good and compelling reasons for this that we will discuss in detail a little later.

And now for the bad news, ready? Our bodies are genetically programmed to reach a certain size and to be a certain shape and if something other than what is in our genetic code is desired our bodies must be forced to do what we want them to do. Worse yet, our bodies are designed to develop to the point of the least common denominator, maintaining just enough muscle to perform our daily routine activities and no more. The body is a pretty smart construction and it knows that
