It is a challenge to find a family vacation that could be classed as "cheap". However, vacations that are designed so that "kids go free" or all-inclusive family packages are usually much less expensive. This kind of vacation is relatively easy to find with a little ingenuity and research and some offer exceptional value.
A first selection when it comes to kids is usually Disneyland or Disney World, and both offer package deals for a family. Resorts and hotels in both areas offer an abundance of accommodations with various price points, many of which include passes. Silver Lake in Orlando is currently offering a promotional package with unbelievable rates. The resort offers every possible amenity for children and families, definitely a good value.
Just 90 minutes from New York City is Rocking Horse Ranch, 500 acres in the Shawangunk Mountains. Apparently, there is no better place for family fun. The advantage of this resort is "all-inclusive" pricing. The activities are endless which can include hay rides, pony rides and even a nursery day camp for 4-12 year olds, and so much more.
Flights and hotel arrangements may still be an expensive consideration for a number of families. However, there are a few alternatives such as spending the Thanksgiving weekend at Frost Valley YMCA, in the Catskill Mountains. This is a "family camp", but it is fully equipped with bunks and lodges. On the site is an historic castle and colonial-style inn. Three to five night packages are available with meals and activities included.
Perhaps you would like to take a "fly free with kids flight" on Horizon Air and visit Flagstaff, Arizona. All-inclusive packages are available when booking with Horizon Air and this location also has a number of accommodations and restaurants, along with spectacular attractions such as the Grand Canyon.
Once again in Florida, the Naples Grande Beach Resort is offering a family Thanksgiving package that includes free accommodations for 2 nights for 2 kids 17 and under. They are offering free activities and other discounts throughout the Thanksgiving holiday.
New Hampshire Dana Place Inn, Jackson, NH in the White Mountains has an offer of a traditional Thanksgiving Package with family suites, and there is "no charge" for children with parents, but a small food charge based on age. There is a wealth of other offerings at this location, something for everyone.
There are a number of ways to have vacations with families that are relatively inexpensive. Another suggestion may be as simple as finding a good B&B in a location you would like to visit closer to home and perhaps spend the day hiking and walking. The opportunities are endless. Just being with the family on Thanksgiving can create the most "wealth" even on a "cheap" vacation.
