If looking to buy a large screen TV, it shouldn't be intimidating, but rather a learning experience. The learning comes before making the purchase, and by learning, it will enable you to make a choice that is both affordable as well as satisfying your needs. So what needs are to be considered? Since all new units are relatively thin and can be placed just about anywhere, size isn't that important if you want to opt for a larger screen since they can be viewed from a relatively close distance compared to older large screen analog TVs.

During the learning, or research phase, you might want to try to find out who the main company is that manufactures the private brands that some of the larger discount stores carry. Remember one thing, that almost all electronics are not manufactured by the same company that puts out the TV you are looking for. There are about three major manufacturers that make the components that go into just about every TV that is produced.

The difference in these units may be how much is used for backup with some of the electronics that goes in the building of these TVs. You might be surprised that the private label brand may have been built by Samsung, Toshiba, or any of the top brands that we have grown to trust. The other difference is how many features that are usable to make viewing a little more convenient.

Other than who makes the units, and how many features they have, todays TVs are all pretty respectable in their performance as anyone could see if they visit one of these superstores that have about fifty or more on display at any one time. Picture aside, lets look at what you need to think about once satisfied that you like the picture. Think about how many features that a higher priced unit has that you feel you would need or not use. If you pay for these features and don't use them, you wasted some money. However, if features are what you want, then be prepared to pay extra for them. They do not add to the performance of the TV, just the convenience.

Even if you select a brand that is just a hair off from what a top brand has to offer as far as a picture, you will never notice it in your home once you get it there. You can drive yourself nuts looking at carpet shades within a certain color, but once
