Are movies getting less entertaining

The movie industry is suffering because movies are getting less entertaining. Living in a world of instant gratification, it almost seems as if people's imaginations have been lost. Hollywood keeps looking to the past to re-make a movie already done, or adapt a movie from an old novel. Then when they really run out of ideas, they take an average performing box office film and create a sequel. A lot of the time the sequel seems to be really stretching to entertain. The director adds more action, sex, and length, but not more creativity. The audience leaves disappointed and Hollywood ends up frustrated.

A perfect example is the sudden influx of comic book movies. These comic books have been around for years and years, entertaining people with the continuing saga of good vs evil. Then suddenly, the movie industry decides, "Hey, let's adapt a comic book into a blockbuster movie." Not that some of the recent comic book and superhero movies are bad, but it just proves the point that producers, directors, and writers are running out of ideas on how to entertain people.

Movies need writers, good writers. How many times have you heard someone say, "The book was so much better than the movie." Books seem to be more entertaining than movies in a lot of ways. Twilight author Stephanie Meyer has even said that when she was writing Twilight she was writing it as if it were already a movie. Hollywood needs more writers like Stephanie Meyer, writers with imagination.

In order for movies to become more entertaining, movies need to get back to basics. Enough with the inflated budgets in order to blow up buildings and bridges. Start spending money on quality scripts and writers. There is a place for the special effects. We live in a technology driven society, and if something doesn't look "real" enough, viewers will be taken out of the movie moment; however, a balance needs to be reached. Stop focusing all of the time on energy on getting the write explosion and start concentrating on getting the right storyline.

There are two sides to every coin. Generally the male population wants action packed, while the female population wants romance. Finding that happy medium is difficult, but the movie industry is getting lazy. It's time to step back up to the plate and start entertaining again instead of looking for an easy way out.
