One question that you must know the answer to if you intend to have a personal relationship with God is: "Who is God?". God is not a dictator that zaps those he disagrees with, and if you feel that way about God you obviously have him confused with the current administration. This is an understandable mistake seeing how the administration itself also seems to believe it is God. Now, I would like to give you the simple answer to the question at hand. As a child, we are all taught a simple verse, it states "God is love". Unfortunately, most of us are no better off knowing this because we do not know what love is. Our view of love has become so perverse that it has blurred our view of God, who is love. To fully understand who God is, read the biblical passage below, I have changed the word Love to God because everyone knows, God is Love.
If I speak in the tongues[a] of men and of angels, but have not God, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not God, I am nothing.
If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames,[b] but have not God, I gain nothing.
God is patient, God is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
God does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
God never fails.
I hope this helped you all as much as it helped me. In this time of turmoil, keep this passage in mind, it will most certainly bring you hope. God seeks, desires even, a personal relationship with each of us. It is my belief that the reason we were created, in his image no less, was to serve as a family for God. It is very important to constantly commune and spend time with those you wish to maintain a relationship with or that relationship witll die. This also applies to our relationship with God. Remember, what ever we ignore in our life will generally die. If you do not feed the pet, it will die. If you ignore you spouse, your marriage will die. Likewise, if you do not give attention to your relationship with God, it will die. That would be a shame, because if you really get to know him, he is quite a guy.
