Easy Pre-school crafts for Thanksgiving
I used to teach Pre Kindergarten and Kindergarten children for Religious Education. It was fun and we did a lot of crafts. One very easy Thanksgiving craft is a drawn out hand turkey. First have the children trace one of their hands on a piece of construction paper and have them draw a turkey on it. Say each step and go slow so they can follow you. Use the four longer fingers as the tail portion and the thumb for the head. It is very cute. You can have them draw the parts or if you have enough supervision you can precut the pieces and have them glue it on their turkey
For this next Thanksgiving craft you can transform half of the class to Indians and the other half into pilgrims
For the Indians you will need:
Construction paper
Markers or crayons
Tape or a stapler
Feathers
First you need cut the construction paper into strips about two inches thick and as long enough to wrap around the children's fore heads and make sure it is about two inches longer so you can staple or cut the ends together. Then have the children decorate the head piece any way they would like. After they are done coloring attach the feather and before you know it they all look like little Indians.
Next we transform your students into pilgrims what you are going to need are some:
White fabric or felt
Scissors
Velcro
Glue gun
White shoe lace
White handkerchief
First you must create a collar. With the felt or fabric measure from shoulder to shoulder across the chest, using the measurements make a triangle by the measurement as the height and double it for the width. Next you need to cut out the rectangle and fold it towards you (horizontally). Mark a half circle in the center as big as the largest part of the child's head. Then cut out the circle. Cut out narrow triangles in the front of the collar. Now you must cut out 2 wide cuffs. For the bonnet you can use the shoelace and the handkerchief place the shoelace in the center and glue it so it will stay still. Then fold the handkerchief until it can fit nicely on the female's head. Shape it and use the shoelace to tie. By now you have transformed your class into pilgrims and Indians now just let them play the roles for a while. Tell them a story about Thanksgiving then ask them what they are thankful for this year. Enjoy and have fun.
