My father is very far away
in a place they call Iraq.
Mother helps us say our prayers
as we ask that he may be safe until he can come back.
He walks the war torn streets
in a city filled with debris.
To keep other children safe
from an evil no one can see.
Sometimes he gets to call us
to say he's doing fine.
He doesn't get to talk for long
as other soldiers wait in line.
Mom reads to us his letters
explaining what is done.
How Iraq will be a better place
once this war is won.
No one will be mistreated
and all can go to school.
The people will have more freedom
from a different kind of government's rule.
So we'll keep praying for the safety
of my daddy and his fellow troops, stationed over there.
That they may make a difference while deployed so far away
by knowing we at home support them with and keep them in our prayers.
