Ideas for do-it-yourself potpourri holder

Potpourri is one the best natural and eco-friendly air fresheners you can get, many people making their own or buying them ready made in packets.

Whichever method you use, it can be very cheap to use it around your home in many situations.

Stockings and tights make ideal holders for the smell can move through the material, but are thick enough to contain it.

To be used for areas where they will not be on display, like wardrobes, where a pair of tights with potpourri placed in the foot area can hang over the clothes rail and help to keep your clothes smelling fresh, also in draws of clothes and bedding.

If you have that large lampshade on your table lamps, you can fill either a pair of tights or stockings with potpourri and then tape it inside the lamp near the bottom edge, the heat from the lamp when lit will help to disperse the wonderful smell around your home.

Another place to tape a potpourri stocking is on your towel rail in your bathroom, and inside the toilet roll is another great spot.

Stockings with potpourri inside them can also be used inside your Wellingtons, boots and shoes when not in use, this helps to eliminate any odour build up in your footwear, and gives off a nice warm aroma when wearing them.

Other items that you can use around the home is unending, any old or new container that can be displayed or decorated and is deep enough to hold a good quantity of potpourri are ideal, for instance.

If you have a teapot that has lost its top or has become cracked or some type of pot that you never use but like to look at then these are ideal for use in the kitchen just fill them up and sit them on a shelf.

Plastic yoghurt pots and similar make ideal potpourri holders and you can get the children involved by getting them to paint them or decorate them, them with a few small holes punched in the sides, you will find the children will be delighted to have them in their rooms, since they made them.

Empty soda pop bottles can be used; you cut off the bottoms, clean and fill them. Small cans can also be used, punch a few holes in the side and fill, and you can even put tea-lights inside with the potpourri around the outside, which again helps to circulate the aroma when lit.

Next time you are about to throw something away, just take a minute to reflect, can I use this again to hold potpourri somewhere in the house or garage, you might jus surprise yourself.

Remember by using potpourri made from your old flower petals or brought at the supermarket around your home, using items you have recycled you are helping to save our planet, so it well worth the effort.
