Traditionally, Paris is considered by many to be the most romantic vacation destination. Poets and songwriters have extolled its charms for many years. However, Paris isn't the only choice for vacationing lovers. Also ranking right up there are New York, San Francisco and Las Vegas.

Most of the famous destinations can offer lovers opportunities for both intimacy and enjoyment of beautiful surroundings. For example:

Paris: There are the well-known upscale hotels, such as the famous Ritz, where Princess Diana met her lover, Dodi, on that fateful night. The hotel is up-scale, very popular with the rich and famous, with prices to match. For an economical, but very romantic destination near the Champs des Mars district, there's the Duquense Eiffel Hotel, an intimate renovated 18th Century townhouse. just a few steps from the famous tower landmark. For a hotel close by the Arc de Triomphe, and shoppes and bistros along the Champs Elysees, the Hotel Vernet makes an excellent romantic hideaway.

Las Vegas: Where else can lovers find hotel suites with mirrors on the ceiling and drive-up wedding chapel windows? Sin City has everything for couples to enjoy when they can drag themselves away from those plush suites. There are Broadway-style theaters in all of the top resort hotels, many within walking distance of each other, on Las Vegas Boulevard. Las Vegas boasts some of the most upscale gourmet restaurants in the world, as well as the city's famed down-home, all-you-can-eat buffets.

San Francisco: What could be more romantic than strolling barefoot at sunset along the shores of the Pacific Ocean while watching the sun glitter off the magnificent Golden Gate Bridge high above you? Two grand hotels at the top of Nob Hill, the Fairmont and Mark Hopkins, offer luxury suites with balconies that provide sky-high views of one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

New York: As Sinatra sang it: If I can make it there, I'd make it anywhere, New York, New York. Snuggle in a buggy ride through Central Park, walk along the Broadway together and imagine seeing your names up in lights at the famous theaters. Eat all kinds of ethnic foods from Chinese to Italian to Mexican to Israeli to everything, and then celebrate in one of the many intimate clubs of Manhattan. Stay in the President Kennedy suite at the Waldorf and order breakfast in bed.

Wait just a darn minute here! Posh hotel suites in the world's most exotic cities are great, but certainly not the only top romantic vacaction destinations. Cruises for couples are right up there with them. Just two of many examples are Royal Caribbean's Majesty of the Seas offers sailings out of Fort Lauderdale to Nassau in the Bahamas and other romantic Atlantic Ocean ports. From the other coast, Carnival's Paradise sails from Long Beach down the Baja Peninsula to Ensanada, Cabo San Lucas and other exotic Mexican Pacific Ocean port cities.

Another advantage of cruises, especially those catering to singles, can offer opportunities for totally new romances to begin on such occasions as moonlit nights watching the ocean flow below. However, top romantic vacation destinations can't do it all. They actually offer only the perfect settings for couples. Then it's their responsibility to get together and do something romantic about it.
