The holidays are swiftly approaching and so are the holiday expenses. Each year it seems like the expenses of the holidays continue to climb and the income for the holidays keeps getting smaller. These factors only increase the need for people to save money during the holidays. There are some incredibly simple ways that anyone can do to save more money through the holidays.

These are just a few suggestions for extra savings during the season:

Stop using credit cards for holiday purchases

Stop using credit cards for holiday purchases

Credit cards often cause more financial headaches after Christmas because spending has not been planned or controlled. There has been little thought given to how or when the credit cards will be paid. The end result is more expenses created with the payment of interest and finance charges.

Be realistic and set limits

One major problem with holiday shopping is that many people never set any kind of limit and overspend on holiday shopping. Avoiding the problem of overspending is easier with a plan and a limit. Before going to the mall have a plan of what items will be purchased and what spending limits will be set. Going to the mall without a plan or a set limit is asking for shopping disaster. Knowing what to buy and how much to spend is crucial when shopping for the holidays.

Buy the clearance items

Every year on the day after Christmas, all of those wonderful Christmas items that did not sell are marked at a discount. Many times these discounts are fifty percent or more. Take advantage of these sales to stock up on Christmas items, including wrapping paper, Christmas decorations, lighting, and even Christmas Trees. There is usually no better price on wrapping paper during the entire year. Use those clearance sales to snag up some savings for the following year.

Search for free shipping

One way that postage adds up is when ordering items online or through catalogs. Many time the shipping we pay is
