Children who grow up in a Christian home already know the true meaning of Christmas. Christmas isn't about Santa Claus or how many presents you get. It is a far deeper and more meaningful thing than that. Christmas is the day the Christ was born. This little baby came to save the world. Many people who don't know the true meaning of Christmas still celebrate it. It is one of the most celebrated birthdays of all time.
We get so caught up in the Santa Claus theme that we don't remember there is a reason for the celebration. It is a celebration of the birth of the greatest man who ever walked the face of this Earth. He was born, in essence to take the blame for all sinners. He would later die on the cross for this purpose. His teachings while he was a man here on Earth are inspiration to people the world over. The Christmas story is truly about love and peace. That is what Jesus represents. It also represents hope for all the world. That is why children need to learn the true meaning of Christmas. It doesn't have a single thing to do with Santa Claus and his ability to deliver toys to every single child.
Although Santa Claus is a gift bearer and so was Jesus, there is a major difference in the two. You don't have to be perfect year round for Jesus to give you his gift. He gives it freely. Santa Claus requires that children must be good in order to receive the gifts he has to give. If Santa were the same representation as Jesus, the gift would still be there for the taking even though the child wasn't good. That is because all you have to do in order to receive Jesus' gift is to believe that he is and believe in what he can do and accept him. Children do that with Santa Claus all the time. They believe in his existence and they believe that he can do what they are told he can do. If each child knew of Jesus and his gift, they would easily feel the same way about him.
We get so boggled down in telling children fairy tales about Christmas that we forget what it's all about. Children should know what it's about. The true story about Jesus and why we celebrate his birthday. They should know the story of the bible and what wonderful gifts there are there. All you have to do is ask. That's is the only requirement to receive the gift. Children need to learn about the true meaning of Christmas as it is, not as having anything to do with Santa Claus. Once they know the story, they have the best gift you could ever give them.
