Magic the Gathering card analysis: Auramancer's Guise

Created on: November 09, 2009

"Auramancer's Guise" is a blue enchantment spell printed as an uncommon for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Planar Chaos." In a sense, this could be considered the predecessor to the legendary creature printed as a mythic rare from "Alara Reborn" known as "Uril, the Miststalker." In a deck full of aura enchantments, one could get plenty of use out of Auramancer's Guide. In an extended format, you could find use out of Auramancer's Guide with the cards currently printed today.

The converted mana cost for Auramancer's Guise is four. You need two blue mana and two colorless mana to play Auramancer's Guise from your hand onto the battlefield. Make sure not to enchant this on a creature with either Shroud or Protection from Blue. For what Aurmancer's Guise can do, it is still questionable on whether or not it is worth it or not to pay the casting cost. With the current cards today, Auramancer's Guise could find some great use for the most part.

What does Auramancer's Guise do in the first place?

When Auramancer's Guise is cast, the enchanted creature gets Vigilance. That is a good start as creatures with Vigilance can attack without tapping. They can attack and defend at the same time. But, that is not the only ability of Auramancer's Guise.

Auramancer's Guise gives the enchanted creatures +2/+2 for each aura enchantment attached to it. Since Auramancer's Guise itself is an aura enchantment, the creature will already get +2/+2. The printed text generally said aura and not "other auras." With the aura enchantments currently printed today, you can use them with Auramancer's Guise. In this respect, it has given more use to Auramancer's Guise.

In a five color deck, you could enchant Auramancer's Guise to Uril, the Miststalker. Uril, the Miststalker cannot be the target of spells and abilities that your opponents control. It gets +2/+2 for each aura enchantment attached to it. Uril, the Miststalker and Auramancer's Guise would go good together in an extended format. You can enchant Auramancer's Guise onto Uril, the Miststalker. Uril, the Miststalker gets +2/+2 due to its main ability. Since Auramancer's Guise is an aura, that gives Uril, the Miststalker an additional +2/+2. With each other aura enchantment, Uril, the Miststalker would get +4/+4 for each one attached.

Overall, Auramancer's Guise is an all right enchantment. But, it is still not that great. You will need aura enchantments to get the most out of it. In an extended format, you should be able to get some use out of this enchantment spell.
