Bulletin board ideas: New Hampshire

New Hampshire was the first state to declare independence from Great Britain, but this is a little known fact (and more often an easily forgotten one), outside of the state and sometimes even in the state of New Hampshire itself. However, if you are an American teacher, you do have the responsibility of teaching your students about each of the 50 states in the Union. Although you may think that this is a rather daunting task, it can be made easier with the use of your bulletin board. The following article will help you create a bulletin board that teaches about the state of New Hampshire. But, if you want to use the instructions for teaching about other events, places, and peoples, you can easily amend the instructions.

Before you begin researching the information for the bulletin board, you will need to decorate it. You can staple a nice background using a sheet of paper with a solid color, or you can use a background that more fully reflects and describes New Hampshire. The state is home to many rocks and minerals, as well as lakes and beaches. You can use pictures of these things and attach them to the bulletin board for a colorful and engaging background that says a lot about the subject at hand.

Once you are done decorating the bulletin board, it is time to start looking for the information. You should encourage your students to work with you on the researching process so that they can learn more about this intensive stage. You should also give them guidelines that will help them through the process. Questions are relevant to this stage; ask them, "When did New Hampshire acquire statehood?" and "What famous events took place in New Hampshire's early history?"

You can also encourage your students to look for fun facts and pictures. These two components make the bulletin board more about the "fun in learning." This will essentially make your students want to look at the bulletin board more often. They can look for fun facts at the websites listed in the "Resources" section at the end of this article. They can also look for appropriate images by Googling New Hampshire.

Once they have finished looking for all of the informational components, they can then type them up, print them out, and attach them to the bulletin board using thumbtacks. When you are all done, go over the information with the whole class.
