iPhone app reviews: Gomoku Online

Gomoku is basically a game that is similar to Connect Four. In Gomoku, the player has to play against the computer and try to connect five of his/her dots before the computer does. The game is fun and engaging and the app itself is well done, but I have a few recommendations and suggestions that might make this game worthier of being on the "Top Paid Apps" list.

For a game that only costs 99 cents, Gomoku is pretty good for what it does. The gameplay is somewhat smooth; there could be some improvements made. For instance, sometimes when I win and connect five of my pieces, the computer does not recognize the win. This could be easily fixed and should be fixed; I know I would get frustrated if this happens many more times. In addition, the game should also have multiplayer option, or at least the ability to play against another real person. Although playing against a computer can be fun and convenient at times, the computer opponent for the Gomoku app is not that difficult to defeat after a few good tries.

All in all, I like the concept of the game very much. I think that it is relatable to even if the game was first invented in Japan or China. I think that having played Connect Four makes this game familiar. Also, Gomoku is appropriate even for young kids. Anyone can play this game easily and he or she will be entertained by it for a long time.

However, I think that it is also easy to get bored with this game after a while. This is one of the reasons why the developers should consider adding different levels and twists. For example, there should be beginner levels as well as expert ones. The developers might consider adding or changing the background of the board once in a while. Little changes like these can contribute to very good reviews.

Overall, I recommend Gomoku for anyone who wants to have a few minutes of fun every now and then. However, as the app stands now, I do not think that it is worth 99 cents. After a few bug fixes, the price would well be worth it, but for now, I think I would purchase this game with a few disappointments in mind. It can be fun to play against a computer sometimes, but this game will inevitably become boring after a while.
