Website reviews: Lockerz.com

Lockers.com is a shopping and social networking community open to membership only by invitation from another member. To apply for membership, you have to submit a membership code that has been sent to you by the member. This may seem a real obstacle if you don't know any members, but luckily there are ways and means around almost everything on the web. This Lockerz member is offering invitations if you email him, as is this member, while this site offers invites within the hour.

It all seems very hush hush and top secret, but members are quite open about offering invites. The site is run by Amazon, and claims to offer `the coolest stuff at the coolest prices', as well as games and social networking, and offering rewards called PTZ (pointz) for almost every activity. These PTZ are site currency which add up to redeem for gifts, prizes and experiences.

The site is meant to go live in Fall 2009, or October 15 according to one member, but so far still appears to be in beta mode. But it claims to have partnered with thousands of stores and brands to offer bargains in electronics, fashion, entertainment and sports. International members are welcome, and the site ships redeemed gifts and items all over the world, according to the FAQ.

Although only one account is allowed per person, household members can have individual accounts, so you and you family and housemates can all apply to the various Lockerz members for invitation codes. If you want to know more about the site before you commit, you can Google Lockerz and get plenty of information including Lockerzinfor.com. This site has created quite a buzz on the web.

With so much apparent secrecy some people are asking is Lockerz is legitimate, or some sort of scam. Supporters point to the fact that it is owned by Amazon, and that the Lockerz CEO Kathy Savitt used to be Amazon's vice president. Lockerz is also backed by a division of the Time Warner company.

Still, it seems odd that the site is still not fully launched even though the launch date has passed. The only way to know if it is worth joining or not is to join, and ask one of the members offering invitations. If you want to know more about what you do on the site to earn pointz, this site gives a good overview.
