Jumping is a very important attribute when it comes to playing basketball. Jumping comes in handy when attempting a jump shot and rebounding. A person who can jump high in most cases has a very good jump shot and is also a very good rebounder. Learning how to jump higher is always the passion of any basketball player. Every player always dreams of one day being able to slam dunk a basketball. You can only do that if you are able to jump high. The following are some pointers on how to jump higher.
The very first thing that a player should work on when it comes to jumping higher is lifting with weights. The legs are the catalyst for any kind of jumping movement thus squats are a must when it comes to building jumping power. There are so many different leg exercises that you can do to build muscle to your legs. Every part of your legs is essential in jumping. The more muscle that you can build on your legs means the higher that you will be able to jump.
There are also exercises that you can do without the use of weights. One popular exercise that basketball coaches use to help with improving jumping is repetitive jumping. For example, the player would line up underneath of the basket and would repetitively jump towards the rim for a certain period of time. This constant motion helps develop all of the leg muscles but is also real good for the calves. It is the calves where the jumping motion begins and it is also where absorption of the fall takes place when you come back to the ground. There are tons of legs exercises and you can do. The best thing is to consult with a basketball coach or strength coach about the best exercises that help with improving jumping.
The most important thing though when it comes to jumping higher is having the proper technique. This is where you can spot basketball teams that have good coaching. If they display proper technique then it will reflect very positively on the head coach. If you are not jumping properly then more than likely you are not jumping as high as you can. Squaring yourself and using the maximum force of your body is essential to jumping higher and jumping correctly. A simple adjustment to ones technique can easily make them jump higher and with more frequency.
Exercise, practice, and proper technique are all major factors that will help a person jump higher for basketball. For any kind of advice for jumping higher for basketball go to a local basketball coach or strength coach. In the end, try doing some research yourself online.
